The Lesley Hyche-Turay Educational Scholarship is given on behalf of the Phi Beta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the Building Legacies Upon Excellence (B.L.U.E.) Foundation. This scholarship is named in honor of the memory of Lesley Hyche-Turay, member of the Phi Beta Zeta Chapter, who tragically lost her life in a vehicular accident in December 2012. This scholarship seeks to award two $1,000 scholarships to selected, qualified applicants that are female graduating high school seniors or current female undergraduates seeking a bachelor’s degree.

We encourage qualified applicants to submit the required documentation for their consideration. Please contact the Phi Beta Zeta Chapter for more information.

  • Deadline for the scholarship application documents is Monday, February 6, 2023
  • If selected, you will be notified by email by February 13, 2023
  • Interviews will be the week of February 20 - 26 (provide current transcript through Fall 2022 for the interview)
  • If awarded the scholarship, you will be notified before March 4th
  • Save the date: The scholarship will be awarded at the Phi Beta Zeta Finer Womanhood Luncheon on March 25, 2023 (scholarship recipient should plan to be present)

Criteria and required documents:

  • Current graduating female high school senior in Tulsa Metro area or current full time female college student enrolled in an accredited Oklahoma college or university.
  • 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Current resume
  • Current photograph (headshot or professional picture preferred)
  • Three recommendation letters: teacher or professor, minister or community leader, other (no relatives). A link is provided below for these letters to be submitted electronically by the author. Pass the link on to those that are submitting recommendation letters.
  • One page essay (500 words max) describing the solution(s) you would propose to improve or resolve a current issue, such as health care, the economy, education, discrimination, violence, or a current similar topic of your choice.
